Practical Information for exchange students

Where to stay?

 

Foreign Students House is available for Erasmus Exchange students in Balkan Campus in Trakya University. It has got 5 rooms and serves to 13 students.  Also the University seeks to provide accommodation for Mevlana Exchange Program students.

In the dormitories of Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK), accommodation service is provided with rooms for 2-3-4-5 people for male students and 1-3-4-6-8 for female students

 

About Visa

 

Before students enter the country, they are required to get a Student Visa from Turkish Embassies in their countries. They are advised to apply for a Student Visa at least 2 months before the term starts.

 

Documents required for visa application:

 

Passport (with at least 1 year validity)

Visa Application Form completed and received from the Turkish Embassy or Consulate

Biometric Passport Photo

Students Record Document from home University

Acceptance letter from Trakya University

Application fee

 

(* Visa rules can change frequently, therefore students should contact with the nearest Turkish Embassy or Consulate for updated necessary documents)

 

 

 

Residence Permit

 

If the foreign students will remain in Turkey more than 3 months they have to apply to Edirne Foreigners Police Department to get a residence permit at least in one month after they enter to Turkey.

 

As stated in the student visa, students will receive a residence permit only for covering their education period at Trakya University and they have to carry this residence permit and certificate by them at all times in Turkey.


The requested documents for proof of residence; 

 

- Student certificate

- 4 photos, (passport size Picture)

- Passport copy with valid student visa

- Passport copy (the original should be submitted)

- Application form (can be taken from the Edirne Police Foreigners Department)

- Settlement document

Climate

 

Various climate types are seen in Edirne. Despite not having a rugged terrain and having a coast, severe climates of the Balkans are seen. Additionally, warm and rainy climate of the Mediterranean, and sometimes Black Sea climate is seen. It is under the influence of Balkan Peninsula, Central Europe, the Mediterranean, Aegean, Black Sea and the Marmara Sea. Continental climate prevails in the Ergene basin. It has harsh and snowy winters and hot summers. Annual rainfall is 597 millimetres.

 

Transportation to Trakya University

 

By Air:

 

Esenler Coach Station is about 35 minutes by Metro (underground) to Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul.  It is 2.5 hours from Esenler Coach Station to Edirne by bus.

Transportation from Edirne Coach Station to Trakya University (Balkan Campus):

 

You can reach to Balkan Campus by bus from Bus station. Edirne Bus Station is close to our university so you can reach the main campus “Balkan Campus” in 10 minutes. Transportation by taxi from the bus station to Balkan Campus is about 15TL.

 

There are a lot of minibuses to the campuses in the city center which takes 5 – 10 minutes to reach. A lot of places in the city are within a walking distance for the students.

 

Trakya University Campus;

 

“Campus Life Center” located in Balkan Campus that has shopping malls, restaurants, cafes and shops that meets many needs. There are restaurants, cafes, stationeries, chemists, etc. for the students near other campuses.

 

 

 

 

How to Get Cell Phone Numbers?

 

Exchange students are advised to get a local mobile number in Turkey in order to communicate in a more convenient and inexpensive way. Exchange students can easily get a local mobile number with their passport from “Turkcell,” “Avea” or “Vodafone” dealers.
